Course Information:
The course provides the opportunity to learn advanced skills in educational Web development. Participants will plan, develop and evaluate Web-based educational applications for the Web using a database driven Web site. A basic knowledge of Web page development (HTML) and database design is helpful. This course is designed to build upon knowledge and skills in previous courses on learning and instructional design and emphasizes the application of learning and design principles to the creation of educational tools. Class time is spent in lecture and demonstration accompanied by weekly lab activities. Lab activities are continued and completed between class sessions. Successful completion of the course requires practice and application of concepts outside of class time.
Course Objectives
- Participants will demonstrate an awareness of current systems for development of data-driven Web sites.
- Participants will demonstrate a basic comfort level with software tools necessary to develop advanced Web resources.
- Participants will develop an interactive educational Web site that includes the following components:
- interactive learning activity or management tool(s),
- resources for monitoring and managing the activity or tools,
- Web-based evaluation/assessment tool(s)
- Participants will write a plan which includes a rationale for the design and implementation of the Web site. The plan will elaborate how learning and design theory are applied in the project.
